Kitty Hawk Wind is in alignment with the DoD’s mission to address climate change as a national security challenge by expanding the use of renewable energy. The proposed project will be located in a Wind Energy Area that has been carefully planned in consultation with the military.
We are working closely with military leaders and local military bases to design and operate a wind project that avoids any adverse impact on military operations. These considerations are fundamental to siting the project, which avoids designated areas.
The military has already defined offshore areas which are off limits. Our team will continue to involve the DoD throughout project design and permitting.
Offshore wind, and the manufacturing and shipping industries it supports, is in perfect alignment with the region’s military related service industries and labor force. Offshore wind will provide good jobs for military veterans close to home.
Renewable energy is critical to U.S. national security as it strengthens America’s energy independence. Free and inexhaustible fuel is available just off our coast, and this local resource has less risk of supply interruption or price fluctuation.
